Michael Brady Ltd is proud to begin the refurbishment and extension of The Fives Court, a historic Grade II listed Arts & Crafts home in Pinner, originally built in 1900 for Ambrose Heal.

Michael Brady Ltd has been appointed to carry out the refurbishment and extension of The Fives Court, a Grade II listed seven-bedroom Arts & Crafts residence located in Pinner, Middlesex. Rich in history and architectural significance, the house was originally built in 1900 by architect Cecil Brewer for his cousin, the renowned furniture designer Ambrose Heal, of Heal’s.

This home is not only architecturally significant — having been described by Pevsner as “one of the most charming pieces of architecture of its time” — but also culturally notable. Heal, a passionate player of the traditional handball sport Fives, had a court incorporated into the original design. The house still bears a blue plaque, and its story has been immortalised in a locally published book written by historian Jim Golland.

MBL’s work will include:

  • Full internal refurbishment of the listed structure

  • Preservation and restoration of original period details

  • Sensitive rear and side extensions in keeping with the original design

With deep respect for the building’s history and craftsmanship, our team is honoured to be playing a role in its next chapter — bringing modern comfort and functionality while retaining its unique architectural character.
